Triticum aestivum (bread wheat) is one of the most important cereals for human nutrition.
Its hexaploid genome (~17 Gb) is the result of a series of natural hybridization events of three closely related taxa.
The first hybridization event between Triticum urartu (donor of the A genome) and an unknown grass probably related to
Aegilops speltoides (donor of the B genome) resulted in the emergence of the progenitor genome, which then hybridized with
